50th Anniversary of the San Fernando Earthquake

On February 9, 1971, just after 6:00 a.m., a M6.5 earthquake struck the San Gabriel mountains, in the northwestern part of Los Angeles County. According to USGS, the San Fernando quake, also known as the Sylmar earthquake, is one of the deadliest earthquakes in California history. This catastrophic event injured thousands, killed 65 people, and left thousands of families without homes.
