Deductible options are 5%, 10%, 15%, 20% and 25% of your customer's Dwelling coverage. According to upcoming policy options changes mobilehomes with a Coverage A limit over $1 million can only select deductibles of 15%, 20%, or 25%.
Claim-payment example:
- If your customer's mobilehome is insured for $150,000, and
- They have purchased a 5% ($7,500) deductible, and
- An earthquake causes $50,000 in covered damage, then
- Their claim payment would be $42,500 (their covered loss, less their deductible, up to the limit purchased).

5%-25% |
The Homeowners Choice policy offers deductibles of 5%-25%.
This deductible is separate from the dwelling deductible, which may allow your customer to receive a personal property claim payment even if they don’t meet the dwelling deductible. And, if the dwelling deductible is met, the personal property deductible is waived.
Homeowners Choice claim-payment example:
- If your customer's mobilehome (dwelling) is insured for $150,000 with a 10% deductible ($15,000), and
- They have personal property covered for $25,000 with a 5% deductible ($1,250), and
- An earthquake causes damage to the dwelling that is less than the dwelling deductible, but $20,000 in personal property damage, then
- Although your customer's dwelling deductible is not met, their separate personal property deductible allows them to receive $18,750!
- This payment is the difference between the covered damage to personal property ($20,000), less the deductible ($1,250).
